Welcoming Alex to the team!

SadasdasdWe’re excited to welcome Alex Willis to the Thirty4/7 team as an Account Executive after he impressed during his internship at the end of 2021. We asked Alex to give a bit of an introduction to himself:

What is your background?

I’m currently a final year undergraduate student studying a BSc in Politics and International Relations at University College London. I’ve been involved in local politics and campaigning on issues I believe strongly about for many years. Since moving to London in 2019, I have worked as a caseworker for a Member of Parliament at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and then for the Mayor of London at the Greater London Authority.

As most of university was online in my second year, I lived back home in Wales. During this period, I worked full time from January-October 2021 as a temporary Healthcare Worker with the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board at their COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Centre in Newport. This job was something completely new to me and I loved being part of the programme! I’m hoping to continue being involved during the holidays.

This past experience has given me a good understanding of local and national political issues, and a solid understanding of working with the public.

I have also been accepted onto the Government Communications Service Internship, positioned in the Cabinet Office, which will be a brilliant experience.

What have you enjoyed most about working at Thirty4/7 Communications?

I think the best part of working at Thirty4/7 is the team! Everyone here is really lovely and they were so welcoming when I first joined. Initially I was a bit unsure as to what I should expect – I had very little knowledge about some of the projects we deal with, but everyone has helped me learn the ropes! I started off as an intern and have now been promoted to Account Executive. I’ve really enjoyed learning about all these different developments going on across the country and learning more about renewable energy and the planning process!

What does a typical day in the life of an Account Executive look like?

Each day starts off with a Teams call for a catch up and to set the objectives for the day. There’s usually a few more meetings scattered through the day too! Most of my work involves monitoring social media, writing stakeholder engagement reports, political audits, monitoring local and national political news and tracking media coverage of our various projects.

What are some of the challenges in your day-to-day work?

Occasionally new work comes in that is marked as a priority, and so tasks have to be taken on at a split second! Sometimes it can be difficult juggling the different projects but that is usually fine with good time management and the team organises itself to adapt to new requirements.

What has been your best experience at Thirty4/7 so far?

I think it was being promoted after being an intern – I wasn’t expecting that!
